Some Important Facts About the Costs of Cosmetic Surgery February 29, 2008

When you call a plastic surgeon to determine the overall
cost make sure to ask specifically what is covered in the
fee that is quoted to you. You should make sure that the
quoted price includes the surgeons fee, as well as covering
any fees for the anesthesiologist and operating room.
Many times when receiving a quote they will only inform you
of the surgeons fees without telling you that is all they
are actually quoting you. when in reality the surgeon’s fee
is roughly only 60-80% of the cost for the entire procedure.
This is to get you to make an appointment to see the doctor
which is when they will tell you the true total cost.
That can be quite different compared to the amount you
where told over the phone. It is also wise to ask if the
consultation fee itself can be deducted from the total cost.
Most reputable surgeons should allow this deduction.
Another potential cost factor to have clarified is, if the
surgical process takes longer then is estimated who will
burden the extra cost? This can turn out to be a significant
extra expenditure. If the surgery is done in a hospital the
anesthesia and operating room fees can accrue at an hourly
rate.
There are two more issues I would like to mention. It is
important to determine if you will be charged for any
potential revisional surgery should it be necessary. One hopes
they won’t need any revisional surgery done, but it is best
to not automatically assume that will be the case. Some
cosmetic surgery procedures have revision rates as high as
10-25%. If you or your plastic surgeon do not bring up
these possible issue, you may end up having to fit the bill
for these additional surgeries.
Lastly one should inquire if the fees for all future follow
up appointments are included in the total cost. It is fairly
common to receive anywhere from 9 to 12 months of follow up
care at no additional cost.
As for the prices themselves they are pretty uniform in the
United States on the whole. Although in some areas of New
York certain procedures may cost 30-50 % more when compared
to the rest of the nation. Below are some of the average
prices from the east and west coast of north America for
various procedures. Due note that these are the rates for
accredited institutions and surgeons. It is defiently not
worth the risk to try and save a few bucks by dealing with
non accredited practioners.
Breast Lift $5000-6000
Breast Augmentation $5000-8000 (depends on if the implants
are saline or silicone. Silicone being the more expensive of
the two.)
Face Lift $7000-9000
Liposuction $2000-10,000 (depends on how many areas the
procedure is done to.)
Nose Surgery $5000-6000
Tummy Tuck $6000-8000
Above are just the estimates for some of the more popular
procedures. The figures themselves come from a survey done
by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Tummy Tucks - Taut & Terrific - or Terrible! February 28, 2008

Tummy tuck surgery (or stomach surgery) can accomplish things that you would not be able to do on your own - no matter how much diet and exercise you undertake. You may lose weight - but neither your loose skin nor your girdle will tighten up. The inner girdle extends from your rib cage down to your pubic bone and from one side of your abdomen to the other. The body is three dimensional - hence the sagging tissues can extend from the front, to the sides, and to the back.
There are three levels of plastic surgery tummy tucks:
Abdominoplasty - is cosmetic surgery to reshape and firm the abdomen. It is the removal of excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen - these may have accumulated due to pregnancy, obesity or age. To tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall. This procedure usually takes between 2 - 5 hours. Incisions will go from hipbone to hipbone - very low on the body. This operation will include the making of a new navel.
Dermolipectomy - is the removal of extra skin and fat and requires repositioning of the belly button. There is no muscle tightening with this procedure. This procedure is appropriate for those who have a higher level of skin laxity than a mini-tuck.
Tumescent Tummy Tuck - or mini tummy tuck - tummy tightening may be required when loose skin and muscles are the problem. This tummy tuck procedure is ideal for people who have fat deposits limited to the area below the navel. This type of surgery may be performed by an endoscope and may only take up to 2 hours - recovery is similar to that of tummy tuck liposuction. Using this method can result in less bleeding during surgery, less bruising, decreased patient discomfort after surgery, possible use of sedation rather than general anesthetic. No ‘new’ navel placement is required.
Tummy tucks are predominately undertaken by women who have lost a lot of weight or who have had children. There is practically nothing that pregnancy can do to the abdomen that a tummy tuck can’t fix - including eliminating stretch marks. However, male tummy tuck is not uncommon amongst men who have also lost a lot of weight.
Tummy tuck results can be quite dramatic!
How to prepare for Abdominoplasty:
- you must stop smoking for at least 2 weeks prior and after surgery
- you must not eat excessively beforehand
- you need to eat well balanced meals
- some medications may need to stop
Tummy tuck complications and tummy tuck risks: be aware, that like all surgery, some possible complications may arise: visible scaring - to have a true scarless tummy tuck a second operation may be required; blood clots and infection - as with any surgery there is the risk of infection, blood clots, or reaction to anesthesia.
Healing is a slow and gradual process - you will probably experience varying levels of discomfort for days or even weeks; full tummy tuck recovery may take several months. Scars may appear to get worse during the first 3 - 6 months as they heal. It may take up to a year for tummy tuck scars to flatten out and lighten in colour - although they may never completely disappear.
Tummy tuck prices: tummy tuck costs, like most plastic surgery, seem to vary - however the average cost is around $2,800.00 for a mini tummy tuck - and $4,800.00 for abdominoplasty.
So… use all this tummy tuck information to make an educated decision on whether or not it is right for you and … don’t forget to ensure you choose a tummy tuck surgeon who is ethical, professional and has an excellent reputation!!

How Much Does A Nose Job Cost February 27, 2008
Posted by admin in : PLASTIC SURGERY , add a commentNearly all plastic or cosmetic surgery is considered elective, which means health insurance does not pay for it. This means you need to have a grasp of the full cost of nose job surgery.
How Much Does A Nose Job Cost
Nose job is a term which really refers to nose molding or nose forming, and it is one of the world’s most common plastic surgery procedures. Many people choose to have it performed because they are unhappy with the shape and size of their nose, and want to improve the look of their face. Once you’ve decided to have nose job, the second question many people ask is, “What is the cost of a nose job?”
As with any medical procedure, the cost of nose job differs depending on who performs the surgery, where it is performed and what resources are needed to complete the surgery. A nose job is one of the few plastic surgery procedures that can occasionally be covered by insurance. Coverage can arise when the surgery must be performed for medical reasons such as to correct a breathing problem. If your nose job is purely cosmetic, you will need to pay for your surgery out of pocket.
The cost of a nose job generally runs from about $3000 to $6000, depending on the exact procedure to be performed. Where the surgery is completed is also a major factor. If the nose job must be done in a hospital instead of an outpatient surgery center or office, the cost will be higher. It will also depend on whether a local or general anesthetic is required to complete the surgery. If a general anesthetic is needed, the cost will be higher as an anesthesiologist will need to be present for the surgery.
Other factors that come into play for the cost of nose job are the fees for pre- and post-operative care, any other facility fees, and your location in the country. Nose jobs can be more expensive if the plastic surgeon is well known or in a high demand area such as Atlanta, Beverly Hills or New York City. The degree of difficulty of your procedure will also be a factor. Obviously, the longer the surgery takes, the more it will cost.
The cost of a nose job should never be the only deciding factor in choosing a plastic surgeon or surgery facility. You will want to take into account whether you feel comfortable with the surgeon, as well as the doctor’s experience and other qualifications. Always choose a board certified plastic surgeon with experience in nose job and any other procedures you want to have. Make sure to look at before and after pictures to get a feel for the results the doctor has previously produced for other patients.
